Jazz Accordion Online Course

Improvising is probably the most creative and fun that a musician can do with your instrument.

It's a unique thing, causes and adds surprises that feed the desire to improvise more and more.

Improvisation and swing for many is natural and for many others it is not because the study of the instrument has been based on the strict score reading. Or perhaps, despite the many jazz methods and texts available, front of a score with melody and chord symbols becomes once again the question: What do I do?

For anyone who has passed this first question, get a second: Something touched him, but why does not sound like Jazz? or ... why not sounds like ... ? The answer is easy: it's in the same score, only needs to see and find everything that is not written.

The Jazz accordion course is designed and developed by and for the accordionist and summarizes in a practical way everything you need to improvise fluidly.

The course is aimed at accordionists (Stradella Bass) with an intermediate-advanced technical level, knowledge of chords and personal and/or professional interest for practice jazz improvisation.

The basis of the course is the analysis and study of Jazz standards supplemented by technical exercises, harmonic and melodic concepts of improvisation and accompaniment.

Analyzing and playing from the beginning, we will see how the theory and assimilation will be the logical consequence of what we are practicing with the instrument.

We did not start with theory, scales, modes, progressions only, etc.. (it is clear that something we also have to study), we started playing jazz standard.

The online course is divided into 2 parts.

In the 1st part the concepts developed are mostly harmonic (chords) and improvisational stage begins with the variation of the theme, the phrases formation from the arpeggios, embellishments and extensions using diatonic chords. Using notes and blues scale, the pentatonic scale, the major and minor scales, accompanying with the bass.

Our work is based on these standards (8 lessons):

  1. Mack the Knife
  2. Lullaby Of Birdland
  3. St. Thomas (Latin)
  4. Autumn Leaves
  5. It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)
  6. My One and Only Love (Ballad)
  7. Don't Get Around Much Anymore
  8. Sweet Georgia Brown

In the 2nd. part (4 lessons), we enter improvisation using scales and modes (modal scales) and chord-scale relationship.
It will also be the subject of study and practice the Rhythm changes harmonic structure and the Jazz Blues with harmonic variations.

  1. Blue Bossa (Latin)
  2. All The Things You Are
  3. Rhythm changes (I Got Rhythm , ....)
  4. Blues (Things Ain't What They Used To Be, Billie's Bounce, ....)
